Interview with Jenna Lyons, Pocatello, ID TRIbe Chief
GT: Where do you call home these days?

Jenna during a marathon
Pocatello, Idaho is my hometown. I love the people, the recreation, and the close-knit, family-like atmosphere!
GT: Which endurance sport gets you most stoked and how did you get started?
Sprint triathlon is definitely the endurance sport that makes me the most excited. I love, more than anything, the sportsmanship that is demonstrated among the athletes. Every part of the race is amazing...the people, the athleticism, and the celebration afterward. Triathlon has instilled an emotional appreciation for physical activity. I did my first sprint triathlon at age 17 in Pocatello...and took third place! I really just wanted a new challenge, and I wanted to get involved in a sport that girls my age don't typically participate in. I worked really hard to achieve a new and difficult goal, and I discovered a passion that I can't match with anything else.
GT: What is your favorite piece of equipment and why?
My favorite piece of equipment is my Trek Madone 4.7. This bike has taken me places--literally and figuratively. His name is Sir Lancelot, and he's been my best friend in times I felt lonely! We've been on many dates together, and I've always had a great time. We like to work out together and go on long rides in the rain. He doesn't talk or complain! He just goes and goes!
GT: How do you support your addiction?
I support my addiction simply by succumbing to it! My parents, friends, and community have been very supportive, emotionally and financially. They want to see me succeed, and I don't want to let them (or myself!) down!
GT: Why do you GO TRIbal and why did you start a TRIbe?
I "went TRIbal" because I think the organization is crucial in the longevity of endurance sports. It provides an outlet for women to share experiences and improve themselves as people. Many times, the physical aspect of athletics undermines the emotional side of it; it should be a balance. People should enjoy a sport because it makes them happy and they feel comfortable with people who share the same passion. I decided to start a TRIbe in Pocatello because we need one. I did my first sprint triathlon and a marathon, and noticed that there were only a couple--if any--girls participating. I am seventeen years old, and I am concerned that girls my age are becoming less active as they get older. We need a way to get active women together. Though the TRIbe is just barely getting started, I think we could potentially bring women's endurance sports to a new level in Pocatello.
