Looking ahead to next year...

I'm possibly looking do a destination race for my 70.3 in 2012, sometime after mid-July.  What are your must-do 70.3 races?

How far did you want to travel?  Florida 70.3 is pretty awesome since it is set right next to Disney World and Gulf Coast 70.3 is awesome because it's right on Panama City Beach (only the prettiest beaches in the world!)  ;)  But both of those races are in May.

I will be doing the following:

Wildflower LONG

Big Kahuna

Neither of these are Ironman 70.3 branded but they are HIMs. They are also in my backyard so not destination races.

Wildflower is an awesome experience. Pretty much everyone camps at the race site so you have about 20,000-30,000 people there, 2000-3000 of which are racing and the atmosphere is just amazing. People do come from all over the country for it.

It's the first weekend in May.

I am considering doing Hawaii 70.3 as a destination race but it depends on whether or not I find a job (I am currently laid off)!

Erin,

You should check out Barb's race (July 28, 2012) in Sonoma County, near San Francisco.

It's an all female 70.3 race and some of the entry fees goes to a charity. I did Full Vineman, which takes place the same time as Barb's race and it was great to see the ladies from Barb's.

There's also SuperFrog (Sept 2012) in San Diego, CA. I did it this year and I really enjoyed the race.

Orangeman (Sept 2011) in Dana Point, CA might be a possiblity....this year was their first year and they got a lot of great reviews so I wouldn't be suprised if they have it again next year.

Also, there Soma in Arizona (October 2012).

All of these races are great 70.3 races, but not Ironman branded races.
