I just described to another coach/friend of mine how I teach someone how to do a flip-turn so I thought this would be a good post to someone wanting to learn.
| How to progress to complete a flip-turn |
|
1. You must be able to complete a somersault in the middle of the pool, a complete 360, no twisting, rotate quickly and stay in tight ball. Rotate your arms counter clockwise as you dive forward into your flip/somersault
2. Next is to get comfortable somersaulting close to the wall. Start about 3 arms length away from the wall (gradually get closer)
3. Next somersault about 1 arm length plus one step away from the wall (until comfortable turning that close to the wall)
4. Next somersault 1 arm plus one step away from the wall and place feet on wall (stay tucked in your tight ball)
5. Next follow step 4 then push off the wall on your back (if you go deep or hips sink when you push off you opened up to early, stay tight and push off straight)
6. Next follow step 5 and twist to side then stomach immediately after push off
7. Next follow step 6 and add your arms to a streamline position as you push and twist pull your arms under and close to your body to a streamline position.
