Arizona Open Water Swim Series 3
Event Description
The third installment takes us back to Saguaro Lake, time to see if you have improved your time over the course of the series.
There will be a few changes:
- 1000m loop course
- 2000m swim will run first and complete prior to the start of the 4000m swim
- We have stairs for the swim exit!
1000, 2000 or 4000 meter open water swim distances OR combine the 1000 and 4000 to compete in this years 5K distance (times will be added together)
We start the series at Saguaro Lake. The venue is located at Key Hole Recreation area at the Saguaro Lake Marina. The access to the water is a brand new dock at the far east end of the Key Hole.
The course for this event will be a 1000m rectangular course. The counter-clockwise rectangular course will be marked with large tetrahedron shaped buoy’s and both the Start and Finish will be in water. the 4000m swim will swim 4 laps, 2000m, 2 laps.
We built a staircase for the exit, so no climbing over rocks to get out of the lake!
There are four Divisions for the 2010 Arizona Open Water Swim Series:
- 1000m wetsuit and non-wetsuit
- 2000m wetsuit and non-wetsuit
- 4000m wetsuit and non-wetsuit
- 5000m Calculated wetsuit and non-wetsuit
Each event, we will give every finisher a commemorative award. Swimmers will collect series points where first place receives 10 points, second 9 points and so on... At the end of the season at Tempe Town Lake, Overall Series Awards will be given... and yes, they will be skateboards again! Swimmers need to have competed in at least 3 events to be eligible.

Results will be posted at the event as well as on the website
Body marking will be available all morning. For timing purposes it is very important to have the back of your hand numbered.
For 2010, our Open Water Swim Events will be solely sanctioned by US Masters Swimming for those swimmers 18 years of age and older. We will sanction all of the events as USA Triathlon Clinics for those Swimmers under the age of 18. TO BE CLEAR... If you are 18 years of age or older, you will need to obtain a US Masters Swimming License or pay the one day membership fee. If you are under the age of 18, then you will either have to have a USAT membership or pay the one day fee . Please visit MASTERS SWIMMING for membership information. No Exceptions.
$40 Early Entry - Good until 7 days prior to event day
$50 Race Day Registration
***Red Rock Triathletes registered for either Nathan’s or Soma have a free pass to one of the Open Water events. Your results will be given to Red Rock. Your entry does not include a T-shirt or sanction required membership if you are not an annual member.***
Directions from Phoenix
Take I-10 east to the Loop 202 freeway east. Exit Country Club (Highway 87) and go northeast to Bush Highway. Head about 4 miles to the Saguaro Lake Marina entrance. Follow the road to the left and look for the signs that say Keyhole Recreation Area.
Directions from Scottsdale
Take the Loop 101 south to the Loop 202 freeway east. Exit Country Club (Highway 87) and go northeast to Bush Highway. Head about 4 miles to the Saguaro Lake Marina entrance. Follow the road to the left and look for the signs that say Keyhole Recreation Area.
Parking Will be at the WATER USERS PARKING AREA A FEW MILES AWAY. WE WILL SHUTTLE YOU TO Key Hole and the Marina. Participants are responsible for obtaining their own TONTO PASS for parking.
